Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan and is known for its spectacular scenery and rich culture. It is also the largest city in the country. The spectacular 15th century Tango Gompa is also the most sought after site in all of Bhutan. About 10 kilometres (6 miles) outside Paro is the famous Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) Buddhist monastery and hermitage. Some Bhutanese believe that Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) flew on the back of a tigress to this location from Tibet. The trek to Tiger's Nest monastery takes about three hours one way. With its immense tranquility and simplicity, Phuentsholing delights tourists with its wildlife conservation park, serene monasteries, scenic viewpoints which captivates tourists with magnificent views of the Bengal plains, and nature parks. One cannot miss the visually striking Bhutan Gate when visiting this town.


Day 01: NJP Rly Station / IXB Airport - Phuentsholing

(Distance: 157 Kms. / Driving Time: 5 Hrs. / Altitude of Phuentsholing: 293 Mts.) Meet & Greet on arrival at NJP Railway Station / IXB Airport and transfer to Phuentsholing (961 ft.) - The Gateway of Bhutan by Road from India. It is a thriving commercial centre on the northern edge of the Indian Plains. On arrival check in at the hotel. In the evening, you may choose to relax at the hotel or walk around the Phuentsholing town. Overnight stay at Phuentsholing

Day 02: Phuentsholing - Thimphu

(Distance: 150 Kms. / Driving Time: 5 Hrs. / Altitude of Thimphu: 2,350 Mts.) After breakfast, complete the immigration formalities and transfer to Thimphu (7,710 ft.) the capital city of Bhutan. On the way, stop at places to view scenery and for Photography. On arrival check in at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at Thimphu.

Day 03: Thimphu Sightseeing – Paro

(Distance: 55 Kms. / Driving Time: 1½ Hrs. / Altitude of Paro: 2,280 Mts.) After breakfast visit the Kuenselphodrang (Buddha Dordenma). It is located at a short drive from Thimphu City Centre, Kuenselphodrang offers a good overview of the Thimphu valley. The largest statue of Buddha in the country sits here which houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues. Then visit the National Memorial Chorten built in the memory of the Third King of Bhutan and visit the Folk Heritage Museum. Afternoon transfer to Paro (7,480 ft.). On the way visit the Tamchog Lhakhang. It was built in the 13th century by Thangthong Gyalpo who is also known as the Iron bridge builder. Situated on a hill top, we have to cross an ancient style bridge to reach the temple. On arrival check in at the hotel. In the evening stroll around the local market shopping for souvenirs. Overnight stay at Paro.

Day 04: Paro Sightseeing

(Altitude of Paro – 2280 Mts.) After breakfast start full day sightseeing covering Ta Dzong - Originally built as a watchtower, it is now the National Museum of Bhutan with an excellent collection of Bhutanese antiquities, Rinpung Dzong - consecrated in 1645 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal on the site of smaller fort. During the 17th & 18th centuries it served as a bastion against invasion from the north. Currently, it is the administrative seat of Paro district, and also houses the state monastic community of about 200 members. Afternoon, visit the Drukgyel Dzong – Built in 1647 to commemorate the victory over an invasion from Tibet, the dzong was however destroyed by accidental fire in 1951. It was preserved in ruins as a heritage site. A full reconstruction of the Dzong was started in 2016. On a clear day experience a beautiful view of Mt. Jhomolhari (24035 ft.); from here. Then visit the Kichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Bhutan built in 659 AD by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gembo. This is the second of the two temples built in a single day to hold down the giant demoness who was preventing the spread of Buddhism. In the evening, explore the Paro Town. Overnight stay at Paro.

Day 05: Paro Hotel - Paro Airport

After breakfast check out from hotel and drive to Paro Airport for your onward journey.
