The top attractions to visit in Turtuk are: Turtuk Waterfall. Thang. Balti Heritage House and Museum. These villages form the only region in India populated by Balti people. Turtuk is known for its fruit, especially apricots. Turtuk was under Pakistani control until the war of 1971, when the Indian Army captured the village. It is also one of the gateways to the Siachen Glacier. It is the biggest high altitude salt lake in the world. In the winter, the lake freezes completely and hard enough to drive a car on it. The road above Chang La is kept open in winters by the Indian Army. So Pangong Lake is accessible throughout the year and it looks like a winter wonderland. Being part of the wetland reserve under Ramsar site, it is actual known as Tsomoriri Wetland Conservation Reserve and one cannot pitch any tents or construct anything near the banks of the lake. It is the highest Ramsar site in the world. A large number of flora and fauna is found in the region.
